THE TRUTH ABOUT VARICOSE VEINS – WHAT OTHER CLINICS WON’T TELL YOU!
What should you know?
Your varicose veins aren’t likely a sign of a serious underlying medical condition. I am saying this as a vascular doctor who treats varicose veins in Houston every day. You see, for centuries doctors inadvertently ran an experiment and they know what happens if your varicose veins go untreated. Up until about 20 yrs. ago the standard of care for treating varicose veins was a procedure called a “vein stripping,” which was performed in the operating room. The term vein stripping carried similar unpleasant connotations to adults as “getting the belt,” did for kids, for those of you who are old enough to remember. No would anyone want to experience either unless there was no other option. As a result, for centuries most people lived with their varicose veins, and the streets weren’t lined with the corpses of those who had chosen not to have their varicose veins treated. In fact, most lead fairly normal lives, aside from having aching, tired, ugly legs.
About 20 years ago, a class of procedures was introduced, which allowed surgeons to treat varicose veins in the office rather than the operating room. I transitioned from performing vein stripping procedures, in the operating room, to treating varicose veins in the office in 2003.
In properly selected patients, these procedures yield excellent results with high success and low complications.
Most Insurance companies paid for vein stripping, and most insurance companies will pay for these procedures.
Varicose veins won’t kill you but living with them make won’t make you stronger. While you that can live with those ugly varicose veins, why would you want to? Why wait to look and feel better? The procedures are less invasive, have better results, and you have an expert living in your midst, who has pioneered innovative advances in treatment of varicose veins.
