Laser Therapy of Perforator Veins

This is from a presentation that I used for a course that I gave for physicians, after I developed the “spot-weld” technique. In it, I discussed the significance of perforator veins. The procedure was performed by placing a stripped laser fiber through a 20-gauge needle. I developed a newer technique a couple of years ago that I like better than the spot-weld technique. If you’re interested, contact me and I’ll be happy to share my work with you.

1470 Wavelength Endovenous Ablations

I performed my first endovenous saphenous ablation in February 2003. The results were excellent; however, using the 940 wavelength laser, I noticed that most patients experienced significant discomfort. My colleagues using the 810, and 980 wavelength lasers noticed similar findings. Patients I treated with the VNUS Closure device, (now called Venefit) had less post procedure pain, but the results were inferior.

The Biolytec 1470 wavelength laser was introduced to me in October of 2008. I was one of the first surgeons in the country to use this laser. This was a big advance in the treatment of veins. I could get laser results, with post procedure discomfort, which was comparable to the VNUS Closure procedure. The only downside was that the disposable costs were high.

A year later, total vein introduced a version of the 1470 laser, with reusable laser fibers. This allowed me to perform the procedure in a cost effective manner.

This PowerPoint presentation is from I talk I gave in 2009 about my experience with the 1470 laser and a brief history on endovenous thermal ablations. I hope you find this helpful. If you have questions please contact me.
